White American males constitute only 33% of the population. Yet, they occupy approximately:

  • 80% of tenured positions in higher education
  • 80% of the House of Representatives
  • 80-85% of the U.S. Senate
  • 92%of Forbes 400 executive CEO-level positions
  • 90% of athletic team owners
  • 97.7% of U.S. presidents

And then they flip out when they’re not allowed in the Women’s Tent.

The gifs above show two ways to generate the famous Sierpinski Triangle

The one on the left uses a method called , interestingly enough, chaos game

Implementing this method is really easy

  • Draw a triangle
  • Pick a random point inside the triangle
  • Go half way to a randomly chosen vertex
  • Draw a dot
  • Repeat step 3

The second method uses 1D cellular automata shown in 2D, rule 90.

Implementing this method is a little harder to understand if you have no comp sci background. You have a one dimensional array with the middle element set as true. Each element in the array is either true or false, true elements are displayed as dots. Each element’s state is dependent on the state of the neighbors to the left and right

  • Rule 90 is XOR. So the element is true if only one of it’s neighbors is true.
  • Shift the y value down for the next iteration, go back one step.

Here is an applet I made showcasing all 256 rules.

Markets have inherent and well-known inefficiencies. One factor is failure to calculate the costs to those who do not participate in transactions. These “externalities” can be huge. That is particularly true for financial institutions.

Their task is to take risks,…
